Sudans Working Group: Sudan Conflict Meeting
澳门六合彩 Africa Program鈥檚 Sudans Working Group met on April 26, 2023, for an off-the-record, virtual discussion on the recent eruption of conflict in Sudan.
Overview
The Co-Chairs, Ambassador Nureldin Satti and Ambassador Donald E. Booth, provided a situation update and analysis of the current conflict鈥檚 dynamics. The co-chairs highlighted the complexities of navigating short-term and long-term goals in resolving conflict, creating sustainable peace, and creating stable, civilian led, and democratic structures in Sudan. Twenty participants attended the meeting, including representatives from the U.S. government, NGOs, think tanks, and academia.
Dr. Nancy J. Walker, Public Policy Fellow with 澳门六合彩 Africa Program, moderated the meeting that provided insight on the conflict, along with current and possible policy responses to from the United States, regional, and international parties.
The participants highlighted short-term and long-term goals and solutions for various issues created by the conflict. They highlighted various local, national, and international stakeholders and actors interested in the conflict鈥檚 resolution and how to leverage these interests to bring about peace. Participants commented on the complexity of framing, solutions, and the impact the conflict has on refugees and neighboring countries.
Overall, the discussion thoroughly examined the challenges and opportunities that Sudan and various actors will face in creating and sustaining peace in Sudan following the recent clash between the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and Rapid Support Forces (RSF).聽
