The multimedia intern supports the Kennan Institute鈥檚 work by creating visual elements for publications, research, and events. The intern will also produce engaging and accessible audio-visual content suitable for a general audience. The multimedia intern is integral to the success of Kennan鈥檚 digital outreach efforts, including promotion on social media.

In addition to the listed responsibilities, the multimedia intern will have opportunities to pursue self-guided projects. Description

The Kennan Institute鈥檚 mission is to improve American understanding about Russia, Ukraine, and the wider region. Applicants need not have prior experience in or about the region. The multimedia intern contributes to all aspects of media creation in support of the Kennan Institute鈥檚 programming. The multimedia intern will work directly with Kennan staff and scholars in support of project activities for a maximum of 35 hours per week. Duties include but are not limited to the following:

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the preparation of publications and/or outreach materials by generating original graphics and audio/visual products suitable for a variety of digital platforms.
  • Manages multimedia projects from start to finish 鈥 including idea generation, research, scripting, storyboards, production, and promotion on digital platforms.
  • Creates engaging content designed to grab the public鈥檚 attention and communicate complex policy or research ideas in a way that is easy to understand.
  • Proofreads and edits written work, including audio transcriptions.
  • Provides operational support during events by capturing original photography and video for social media platforms, updating social media accounts, and other tasks as needed.
  • Coordinates in-person and online with Kennan staff and fulfills audio and video editing requests.
  • Produces high-quality results on a tight schedule.听

Qualifications

  • Experience with photography and videography.
  • Experience with designing graphics, especially those suitable for social media.
  • Software experience: Canva, Adobe Suite (including Premiere, After Effects, and Illustrator).
  • Experience with social media platforms, especially Twitter/X, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
  • Demonstrated interest in international relations or foreign policy is desirable; expertise related to Russia, Ukraine, and the surrounding regions is a plus.
  • Current student in an accredited degree program or recent graduate.

The Woodrow Wilson Center for International Scholars is a hybrid work environment. Fully remote work is possible; preference is given to candidates who can work in the Kennan Institute office in Washington, DC at least one day per week. The estimated start date for this position is听September 16, 2024.听
