Full Biography
Alexa Kurmanov is a PhD Student in the Anthropology Department at the University of California, Berkeley. Their research focuses on discourses on the category of 鈥渨oman鈥 deployed by the state, local nationalist groups, the public, and feminist and LGBTQI organizations in (post)socialist Kyrgyzstan. They are interested in the meanings of queerness, Blackness, colonialism(s), erasure(s), and the praxis of intersectionality in Central Asia.
