Questions of political economy, defense strategy, and bilateral relations have dominated the recent analysis of China鈥檚 relationship with Latin America.听听 Yet a wide range of 鈥渘ew鈥 interactions are also important to consider:听 transnational flows of capital and people, adaptation and learning in industrial production chains and the mining sector, the fluidity of perceptions between China and Latin America, stereotypes and 鈥渙thering鈥 of Latin America within China, and what the changing assumptions of China鈥檚 top leadership mean for the China-Latin America relationship.

We were joined for a discussion of the new book, From the Great Wall to the New World: China and Latin America in the 21st Century (Cambridge University Press) by co-editors:
