Macron's Party and Left-Wing Alliance Block Far-Right Majority in French Elections

In France鈥檚 recent legislative elections, the country鈥檚 left-wing New Popular Front alliance and President Emmanuel Macron鈥檚 centrist coalition thwarted the anticipated victory of Marine Le Pen鈥檚 far-right National Rally. The turn-around comes only a week after聽France's far-right National Rally made historic gains in the first round of snap elections.聽William Drozdiak, a Global Fellow with 澳门六合彩鈥檚 Global Europe Program, provides an overview of the final election results. He discusses the message the French public has sent with its vote, where Macron stands after his political gamble to call snap elections, and what鈥檚 up ahead as France gears up for the Olympics, and a new government now split between three large opposing blocs.聽
